the original art work

This is the vital and core ingredient of a Junior Masterpiece. On the whole, any drawing you love is possible of being transformed into a masterpiece. Below I have included a variety of drawings we have used in the past.

Most importantly is how you supply me the art. We can work from either your child’s original artwork or from a scanned image, please contact us if you are unsure or would like some more guidance.

PAPER

Images or portraits can be drawn on separate sheets of A4 as we can assemble one picture from multiple drawings. We recommend adding names, a date or a title to enhance your print to give it a place in time, collate all this and after placing your order, email your scanned drawings to karen@quirkylime.co.uk

SCANNING

Please scan all artwork in colour at 300-600 DPI (dots per inch) at 100% as a jpg, jpeg or pdf format. We will notify you if we have any issues with the quality of the scanned artwork.

Fathersday Workshop

We are going to try a new angle. I have had parents say, ‘I never get my children to draw’ or ‘I can’t draw, how can I do it with them’. First off all, don’t let your children hear you! Kids are amazing drawers, their mind is free and have no boundaries.. which is why I love their drawings, honest reflections of their vision!

We are organising a workshop this Friday at the Consortium, for those who would love a family portrait but can’t get their children to draw! You have to stay on the premise but we have tea and you can have a browse at Mint Tea Boutique and the Consortium while we draw with your kids.

They only thing is you have to commit to buying a print, which will be ready for fathers day. It doesn’t need to be a family portrait it can be whatever you desire. Please email me (karen@quirkylime.com) or call me 07880578496 to book a time between 10-4 this friday the 2nd of June 2017.

Professional photoshoot

My first photo shoot.

I left Winchester at 7. 2.5 hours later, I unpacked the huge amount of products, frames and props I had brought. The studio was so much smaller than the photos I had seen online, but it was also so much more homely than the photos, there were plants everywhere. I looked like a plant rescue.

I had a stylist and the photographer for the day, so I was going to take notes on all the expertise and experience these people had. I let them do their thing, I bit my tongue a few times, but I remembered I was here for their expertise. And I am so glad I let them to their thing. The stylist Mugdha had the coolest job. with the props, she told a story with each print. The more we photographed the freer it became. MT tape stole the show, all the props were used in many different ways. it was a great learning curve for me.

Next time, I will have a list of photos I want. The top shoots were the most fun. Having the camera high up so you can create an image on the floor, this allows you to defy gravity in your photos, and you create amazing images. I think I might try it myself at home.

Lighting and consistency were key. if you look at my updated website you can see the consistency and coherence of the images. They all have the same chimney breast and the same grey wall. As the products were similar but different, so you could go wild on the props.

I will now set twice as much time to do photography as I would have had done otherwise. I will put on the french radio and take my shoes off like in Yeshen’s studio and hopefully, we can recreate the peace and calmness of the shoot… ah and I am going to buy some more house plants, that reminded me of my home in Holland.

Your sons scribbles pride of place in the living room, in one step

Every parent has a stash of their children's drawings which are too nice to throw away but not quite good enough to frame on the wall. Here is your answer: transform them into a junior Masterpiece.

This is a little case study, explaining the process.

Let's say your four-year-old son, doesn't draw much, but then one day you see him scribbling away on the back of a crumbled, coffee stained utility bill. He has a pencil and is drawing, the papa very tall, the mama near him and his sister next to him, much smaller than him, even though she is the tallest in the class and is two years older. With all his concentration he manages to write everybody's name. There you go, The best masterpiece ever, your family by your own son..... but why did he draw it on that piece of paper, off he goes into the garden.

With a drawing like this you can make the best, the most original and the most personal gift in the world. In only one step. Hand it over it me, and I will transform your son's creativity into a piece of art that will suit your interior and hang proudly in your room, no utility bill and no coffee stains.

enough chat here is the proof:

the 2017 wall planner

6 years ago a friend asked me to design her a wall planner. 6 years on, we have screen printed the 2017 wall planner in a cool colour orange! It is a A1 sized calendar screen printed on sturdy white card and strung together with treasury tags. Four months hang in each section and each calendar comes with velcro adhesive strip to hang it on the wall. The chunky wall calendar allows you to see the whole year in one.

How to make children's drawings look even better

As parents we all love our children’s drawings, but often they draw something you really didn’t want them to add. ‘Why did they have to add that 3rd child we don’t have’, ‘we don’t have a dog’ or ‘I wish they hadn’t made that bright yellow’. This is where Junior Masterpieces can help you.

Children grow up so quickly; from 3 years old onwards they can create the most inventive stories, free, liberated and creative drawings. Heads with legs as people, animals as they see them, cars with 8 wheels. They create beautiful timeless images. These are memories you really want to keep. Some are just too special to keep in a pile, in a box in the attic in between other 'forgotten' memories.

Junior Masterpieces was born to do exactly that. You choose your favourite and most memorable drawing. It can be transformed into wall worthy art. Your children’s drawing can be used as grown up art. It might need a little edit, just a little clean up, add some colour and add a date.

The aim is to use your child’s creative output whilst making sure outlines are clear and replacing colours with the QuirkyLime palette to clean and brighten the image. The background is added last to achieve the real “wow” factor.  This creates the strong, vibrant look of Junior Masterpieces. Adding a date or age to a child’s drawing places it in the timeline of your family story.

I want a Junior Masterpiece

If you have a drawing, order directly in my shop, or to get a rough estimate click here.  Scan or photograph your favourite drawing, or commission your own children to draw your family. Email me the drawing and we go from there. We agree on a price and final product of your choice, or various products! (print, mugs, placemats and other products are all possible) We need two to three weeks to create the artwork and we will send you the final design of the artwork to make minor edits. Once approved it will be printed and a framing service is available at additional cost too.
